Paula Wilson - Relate Trained Counsellor

I am an experienced Relate counsellor and trainer having worked with couples, individuals via a GP referral scheme and with young people in a local secondary school.

I work to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) code of ethics and framework for good practice and follow its guidelines relating to confidentiality, supervision and ongoing professional development. Back

Is counselling for me?

For couples counselling may help during relationship issues such as difficulty in communicating; impact of infidelity; unresolved conflicts; differing expectations; sexual problems; changed circumstances; separation or divorce and the impact of illness.

For individuals areas include anxiety; stress; self esteem; bereavement; difficulty forming or maintaining relationships and problems with anger;

In young people’s counselling areas such as friendships; bullying; relationship with family or teachers; self harm; schoolwork issues; exams; sex; health; bereavement; problems with police and peer pressure can all be explored.

My aim in providing counselling is to use a variety of techniques in order to help people find solutions, insights or courses of action that might not have been possible before. I do this by creating a therapeutic environment that allows us to work together to look at situations either in the present or past that may be causing distress or concern.

Clients often tell me that having an impartial and objective person that they can share their difficulties with is very beneficial.

I use a variety of methods in my work including systemic, psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and solution focussed techniques depending on your needs.

I will keep all client information confidential unless there is a risk of harm in which case I may need to contact another organisation.

I welcome all clients irrespective of culture, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

If you have any questions that are not answered the please do not hesitate to call me.

How much will it cost?

I offer daytime and evening appointments with sessions lasting 50 minutes. I would usually recommend at least six sessions normally on a weekly basis to begin with. At the fifth session we would review progress together and agree next steps.

Sessions are charged at £40 for a 50 minute session. I do require at least 24 hours notice to re-schedule or cancel an appointment otherwise the full fee will apply.
