Susan Koten is holding a Herbs for Health day at Thorndon Country Park (North). She has been a medical herbalist since 1990 and runs the Willow Herbal Centre a busy practise three minutes walk from Harold Wood station.

This is going to be a very interesting day for anyone who wants to know more about herbs, and how they have been used for centuries to heal our bodies.


Aims of the Day

We will take a look at where the herbs grow and how to identify them and we will discuss the medical uses of the herbs that we identify. We will also look at the different ways that herbs can be used and also experience how our senses are used in the use of herbs, i.e. smell, taste, touch.

This day is aimed at all levels of herbal knowledge, from a complete novice upwards.


What you need to bring

A notebook or small sketchbook/camera and pencil/pen.

Footwear and clothing suitable for a walk in the park. A good pair of walking shoes is essential and also rainwear just in case its needed.

Lunch. Sandwiches and snack items are available in the visitor centre, but not included in the cost of the day


Itinerary

The day starts at 10.30a.m. at the Visitors Centre Thorndon Park (North). The following times are all flexible, but as a guide, the workshop will be as follows:

Morning Session 10.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. Walk exploring for herbs with discussion. Notes will be provided . Break for lunch

Afternoon Session 2.00p.m. -3.30p.m. A presentation looking at herbs and their uses followed by a discussion on the benefits of herbs for your health.

An information pack will be given to everyone who attends which will include worksheets, leaflets and herb samples.
